Muscle Memory explores memory, identity, desire, healing, and transformation through Polaroid emulsion lifts and mixed-media works.

Using an inherently fragile photographic process, I lift, transfer, and reconstruct images as a way of exploring how memories shift over time. Drawn from personal experiences, these works trace the impressions left by love, loss, belonging, and self-discovery.

The title refers to the ways our bodies remember what our minds may try to forget. Emotions, relationships, places, and experiences leave traces that continue to shape us long after they have passed. Through fragmentation, repetition, and layering, the work inhabits the space between who we were and who we are becoming.

For me, the emulsion lift process mirrors the act of remembering. Images are removed from their original surface, stretched, torn, fragmented, and reassembled into something new. In the same way, memory is never fixed. It shifts with time, experience, and perspective. These works are not attempts to preserve the past exactly as it was, but to understand how it continues to live within us.

OUR BODIES REMEMBER WHAT OUR MINDS MAY TRY TO FORGET.
